Eagan fireplace and chimney service for homes built since the 1970s
Most Eagan homes date from the 1970s or later. A fireplace here is often either a masonry chimney from that era or a factory-built unit with a metal flue. We sweep, inspect and repair both kinds in 55121, 55122 and 55123.
From onion fields to suburbs
Irish farmers settled Eagan, and the township was set up in 1860. It was once called the Onion Capital of the United States. The Holz Family Farmstead, first farmed in the 1870s, still shows that farm past. Then the roads came. Highway 77 was moved and widened, a new Minnesota River bridge opened in 1980, and I-35E was finished in the mid-1980s. Eagan became a city in 1972, and its population went from 1,185 in 1950 to 47,409 in 1990.
Masonry or factory-built: why it matters
A masonry chimney is brick or block with a clay or metal liner inside. A factory-built fireplace is a metal firebox sold as a system, with a metal chimney pipe that often runs up through a wood-framed box called a chase. Suburban homes from the 1970s on can have either one. Each kind wears out in its own way.
On a factory-built system, we check the metal flue sections, the firebox panels and the chase cover on top. Many chase covers are thin steel that rusts, holds water and drips into the chase. Rust streaks on the siding are a common warning sign. On a masonry chimney, we look at the crown, the mortar joints and the liner. Factory-built units must be repaired with parts listed for that model. Our chimney inspection page explains what each level covers.
Gas inserts and wet ground
If you have turned an old wood fireplace into a gas insert, it still needs a liner sized to the insert and a yearly check. A blocked vent can push exhaust back into the room. The city says Eagan has nearly 1,200 lakes, wetlands and ponds. If your yard backs onto one, damp air and wind can speed up rust on caps and chase covers, so give them a closer look each fall.
Typical Eagan chimney work
- Chase cover checks and replacement
- Sweeping factory-built and masonry fireplaces
- Liners for gas and wood inserts
- Crown and mortar repair on 1970s masonry
Thinking about switching to gas? Have the flue checked first, so the insert and its liner are matched to your chimney.
Eagan fireplace questions
How can I tell if my Eagan fireplace is factory-built?
Look for a metal firebox, a metal label with a model number, and a round metal pipe on the roof inside a boxed chase. A brick or stone stack with a clay flue tile on top usually means masonry. We can confirm which one you have during a sweep.
There are rust stains under my chase cover. Is that a problem?
It can be. Rust means the cover is holding water, and over time that water can rot the wood chase and reach the flue. In homes from Eagan's 1970s and 1980s growth, the original cover may still be up there. A sloped, rust-resistant cover is the usual fix.
Do you work in all three Eagan ZIP codes?
Yes. We serve 55121, 55122 and 55123, from the Cedar Grove area near Cedar Avenue and Highway 13 to the streets around Central Park and Yankee Doodle Road. You can request a time on our booking page.
