Rosemount chimney sweeping for a town that grew up fast

Rosemount had 1,337 people in 1970 and 25,650 in 2020, so most homes in 55068 are fairly new. Newer does not mean care-free. Gas fireplaces, factory-built units and wood-burning chimneys all need a yearly look, and we handle all three.

From a railroad stop to a growing suburb

Rosemount Township was set up in 1858, and the village was platted in 1866 around a Minnesota Central Railway station. The town is named for a village in Ireland, and it still holds the 10-day Leprechaun Days festival. For about a century it stayed small. Then the population climbed to 5,083 in 1980, 14,619 in 2000 and 21,874 in 2010. By 2020 the city had 9,138 housing units.

In 2017 the Metropolitan Council reported that the western third of the city was almost fully built out, and that new growth was moving into the middle of the city around UMore Park. That land has an unusual past. During World War II the Gopher Ordnance Works made smokeless gunpowder there, and the University of Minnesota has owned it since 1947.

Why a newer fireplace still needs service

A fireplace in a home from the 1980s or later is often gas or factory-built. These systems are simpler than old brick, but they still have parts that fail. Gas logs can make soot when the flame is not set right or the logs shift. Glass fronts get a white film. Vent caps can be blocked by nests, leaves or ice. A factory-built wood fireplace still makes creosote, so it has to be swept like any other chimney.

Many gas fireplaces vent straight out a side wall through a small cap. Keep snow, mulch and shrubs clear of that cap all year. If the flame turns tall and yellow, or the glass blackens fast, shut the unit off and have it checked.

If you bought a home in Rosemount recently, ask the seller when the fireplace was last serviced. If no one knows, start with a chimney sweeping and an inspection. Then you will know where things stand before the first cold night.

What Rosemount homeowners ask for

  • Yearly gas fireplace service
  • Sweeping factory-built wood fireplaces
  • Vent and cap checks after a hard winter
  • A baseline inspection after buying a home

Chimney questions from Rosemount

My Rosemount home is fairly new. Does the fireplace really need service?

Yes. Even a gas fireplace can have a blocked vent, a worn gasket or soot from a poorly tuned flame. A wood-burning unit builds up creosote no matter how new it is. A yearly check catches these problems early.

My home went up during the 1990s or 2000s. What wears out first?

Rosemount grew most between 1980 and 2010, so many fireplaces here are reaching the age when gaskets, glass seals, vent caps and metal chase covers start to wear. We check those parts first, along with the firebox and the flue.
